Sport: should women earn the same as men?

Traditionally, women’s remuneration has been way below men’s. In more recent times the gap has narrowed somewhat. For example Cricket Australia’s new pay deal for women will see its top female players become the highest paid team sports athletes in Australia, earning more than AUD 100,000 a year. Still, a handful of the top ranked male players reportedly earn over AUD 2 million a season.

The Conversation recently noted that because of physiological issues (size, muscle bulk, etc) women train and work at professional sports at least as hard as men at elite levels, and probably work harder. And for all the effort, in most sports women receive considerably less while running all the same career-ending risks (eg injury, loss of form, not being selected, etc).

For both women and men, if you’re thinking of a professional sporting career, there’s a lot to think about. Find out more at our 2624844099
